I have lived in the Northwest all my life save for a six month stint in Sacramento. And just like clockwork it always starts to rain on Halloween. This year was no exception, however, while it rained during the day, the evening shaped up to be a perfect night for trick or treating. It quit raining and the fog laid low to the ground giving everything that spooky, eerie feeling that makes a great scary night. I went out to see a children's play, the BFG by Roald Dahl mainly because most of my friends were in it...afterwards, I went to an "I Love The 80's" party at my friend Amanda's house. I was thinking of not going because to be honest " I Hate the 80's" but at the last minute I decide to go over to our local thrift store and I found the perfect 80's outfit. A purple suede skirt and matching jacket with football style shoulder pads. It fit to a tee and to be honest, because the 80's are so "in" right now most folks just thought I was dressed up nice.
I asked my friend Laura to come model for me and I got some really nice photos of her....
My friend Jason also interviewed me for his blog, Olympia Standard, about my new volunteer position at OFS
Happy November everyone....its 'gonna be a hip, happening month I can just feel it!
Well, here I am. The kitchen re-model is taking up all my extra time these days....boy will I be glad when it is finished. We got the cabinets this weekend and Tom should have them all in by tomorrow. It's finally starting to look like a kitchen again, instead of a war zone. Last night we actually used the oven to make a frozen dinner. That was the closest thing to a real meal we have had around here.
While the kitchen was gutted I couldn't help taking a few shots with the oven.
"Self portrait with oven".....
I am really excited now though because I finally got a new serger! I have been wanting a new one for a while so I can begin sewing knits. Today is the first day I get to use it.
Mechelle came back to town for her high school reunion last weekend so I got to hang with her for a few days. She helped me model some new items at etsy.
I actually had my best month ever on etsy and thank god for that. Having patterns available was the best thing I ever did. I am wanting to write more. Plus my new asymmetrical scarf has been a real hit.
I also took on the volunteer job of co-ordinating the Olympia Film Society's upstairs gallery. My first job is to help get the 6th annual "Duck the Malls" craft sale off the ground.....So if you want to be a vendor please contact me:)
I am off to go play with my new toy.....
Here I am again, still sad about Kahea. The funeral was very lovely, as lovely as can be. We laid her to rest on a hill in Lincoln City Oregon over looking the Pacific Ocean to Hawaii where she spent her summers. She over looks the beach where she and I played when she was a little girl. It was a beautiful day on the Coast and the sunset was stunning, as if it knew what we needed.
I have also been taking A LOT of photos. My friend Erik needed some head shots for commercial work and also some shot of his artwork for applying to shows.
My nephew Drew showed up yesterday and we hung out in the beautiful sunshine that only a late September day can bring.
Here a a few shots....
I dreamed,
Bruce Springsteen and I where on a rope swing. Dusk, under the branches of a gnarly old tree, we each held a piece of the rope opposite each other and leaned our bodies out with our heads thrown back. We laughed joyfully and I looked beyond his face to the deep, envelope of the evening sky and through holes in the wide arms of the tree I winked at the twinkling stars behind his head.
He looked at me with a sudden realization and said, "You are AWESOME"
I kid you not. Sleep, its a good thing
Like this ruffled scarf.
It's Thursday, I know....
I have a self portrait too. The kitchen re-model is coming right along, oh yeah, I haven't said much about that have I? Well, Tom is re-modeling the kitchen. Today we went to pick out cabinets.....
So, I get laid off and today I just found out I have a mandatory 3 fucking hour session I have to sit through to get my stupid unemployment. sigh.....
I am becoming increasingly despondent, achy, tired....I think I am depressed. I want some good news damnit!
Anyway, I was on my way to my car and I ran into this guy who was skating through these barriers and I had to get a photo because he was landing on his board every time! He was stoked and so was I......
Okay, I know its self portrait Thursday so here is a shot of me with the awesome new bag on my arm,
Well here is my self portrait for yesterday......
